The Buzz: After a long soft opening, the Fivelements wellness retreat in Sai Kung is now ready for visitors. In addition to wellness classes and treatments, the spa’s Sakti Dining Room serves up healthy plant-based cuisine using innovative cooking techniques and gorgeous plating, making it one of Hong Kong’s only vegan fine-dining outlets.
The Meal: We started with an amuse bouche of fresh fruits infused with flower water, followed by a totally addictive kale salad topped with powdered greens, with cubes of juicy beetroot hiding under the leaves. The mains got really creative, with a roasted cauliflower on top of farm fresh tomatoes, served with a savoury mung bean and chestnut cake, topped with dehydrated chestnut chips. Dessert was a rich almond and anis seed ice cream served with almond liquorice cream and fennel. The menu changes regularly depending on what’s in season, so you’ll be surprised each time you go.
The Verdict: We just loved the food here. Fivelements, which started out in Bali, is well known for its award-winning cuisine and it’s a real treat to be able to experience it here in Hong Kong. If you’ve got a herbivore’s birthday coming up, it’s a perfect setting for a healthy, plant-based celebration.
The Cost: $358 for three courses.
