Review: Stardust "Bacial" at Amooma | Liv

The Buzz : Sweat and sunscreen can wreak havoc on our skin in the summer – and not just on our face! That’s why Amooma Spa has come up with a 75-minute “bacial” (yes, that’s a facial for your back) to get the skin on your back on track before your next junk trip.

The Treatment: Tucked away down a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it alleyway off Queen’s Road East, Amooma is a tiny yet beautiful day spa housed in a traditional “tong lau” shopfront, complete with a Zen-style open-air courtyard leading to the treatment rooms. The “bacial” starts with a cleansing and sea salt scrub, followed by a steam and extraction. The skin on your back is not as sensitive as your face so it’s not at all painful and actually quite pleasant. Then there’s a detoxifying back massage, and to finish, a self-heating algae and marine clay back masque and scalp massage.

The Verdict : You get the best of both worlds with this heavenly treatment: supreme pampering and a skin-calming, results-driven treatment in an area that doesn’t often get any love. Let’s face it, how effectively are we cleaning those hard-to-reach areas in the shower? Our skin felt clean, dry and blemish-free for days afterwards, making this an ideal treatment for anyone who suffers from bacne, or whose back could do with a little TLC.

Price: $1,280 for 75 minutes.
