A spiritual counsellor and astrologer for more than eight years, Letao of The Healing Kingdom takes an empathetic yet practical approach to counselling his clients. He talks to Liv Magazine about the ancient practice’s place in 21st century wellness.
Tell us about your path to spiritual reading
I didn’t discover this path until quite late. I was pursuing my Master program in Sydney Australia, and you could say that serendipity brought me to one of the most famous readers in Sydney. There I encountered my spiritual teacher, which was a turning point in my life. My interests and talent in spiritual healing have flourished since then.
When did you become a full-time spiritual counsellor?
In the early years of my twenties I tried many different jobs but had never found my career calling, although becoming a professional reader had always been in the back of my mind. It was around eight years ago that I had a spiritual awakening and realised being a professional reader could be “the one” for me. I started by doing readings for friends and family, and they loved it so much that my network started to grow through word of mouth. I built up my own knowledge, studying astrology, tarot and numerology. 2020 is the eighth year of my professional journey and I have been very fortunate to have all my clients’ support and love.
What kind of clients come to you for a reading?
Most people who come to me already have a concern or a question that they seek help with, usually related to their relationships or their career. They could be going through a separation, for example. I describe it as a spiritual counselling session, where I use astrology, numerology and tarot cards to identify the client’s current tendencies and patterns of behaviour. Through the session, they understand more about who they really are and what will give them happiness. It’s a journey of self-discovery.
What happens during a session?
There are many kinds of tarot readers out there, and everyone does it for a different purpose. My purpose is to help clients heal and seek clarity. We’re not magicians or fortune tellers. We’re not necessarily “witchy” psychics either. Tarot and astrology is a way for people to look at the problems and issues they are facing in their lives and find some guidance. My mission is to help clients find clarity, and help them discover the path that is already there in front of them. My job is to build a strong emotional connection with the client, to understand how they feel and empathise, while remaining clear-eyed enough to look at their problems logically and dispassionately. It requires a lot of energy and emotional intelligence.
