The Buzz: Angsana Spa at Hotel ICON has just launched The Vitality Starter. Inspired by traditional Thai massages, this blissful two-hour treatment starts with a 30-minute deep muscle stretching by a therapist, followed by a 30-minute herbal salt compress and finishing up with a 60-minute massage.
The Spa: As soon as you step into the spa, it feels like you’ve been transported to a fragrant oasis, with friendly staff greeting you by name.
The Treatment: Though not a fan of Thai-style massage generally, we enjoyed the 30 minutes of stretching, which felt amazing on our overworked muscles. The compress was made of Thai herbs and salt, which was then steamed and placed directly on the skin to alleviate inflammation and relax. We then took our pick of fusion, Javanese, Thai, Dream, or the signature Angsana massage. We opted for the Javanese, a deep tissue treatment designed to promote better sleep.
The Verdict: We left feeling relaxed, happy and well looked after by the therapists, who have each gone through at least 350 hours of training at the Banyan Tree Academy. This massage was just what we needed to soothe our sore muscles after some tough workouts, and the warm poultice is perfect for the cooler weather.
Cost: $ 1,980 on Mon-Thu (excluding public holidays) and $2,200 on Fri-Sun.
